Havasu Net Em – Your Fishing Guide Service for Lake Havasu

My name is Don Allen; I go by “D.A.” I am the most experienced guide on Lake Havasu, having guided over 11,000 hours since September 2018. I am also the only guide who specializes in catching the World Famous Red Ear. We fish for them in March through April and into May. Redear fishing books far in advance. If the date you want is not available, call us or send an email to get on our 2027 wait list (links below) .

Our season runs from November through mid-May.

Generally, in November and December, we will fish for Flathead Catfish. In January and February, we concentrate on Stripers. March is a transitional month, because we switch from Stripers to Redear when the water temperatures reach 56 degrees. When fishing for Redear, we also catch Large and Smallmouth Bass. These are general guidelines; we fish for what is ACTIVE and can deliver a positive client experience.

From November through March, we offer half, three-quarter, or full days. In April and May, we only offer full days.

News Update for our 9th Season (November 2026-May 2027):

We’ve expanded our trip options to include a Three-Quarter Day. Because of our extensive experience, we’ve discovered an exciting new pattern involving Flathead Catfish. Flathead Catfish are an apex predator. They distance themselves from Channel Catfish in that they prefer their meals to be alive. This new pattern results in them targeting the numerous immature Stripers. The Three-Quarter Day trip option allows for more hours to find those huge schools of immature Stripers that Flatheads focus on. Find the big schools of Striper, find the apex predator and they are usually large. We’ve had catches up to 44 pounds, so it’s an effective pattern and when implemented usually produces exciting fishing.

We’ll use this pattern in November and December when the immature schools of Stripers are intact and present in the water column. Other times, beyond November and December, it allows us more time than a half a day to fish for whatever is biting.

In January and February the Shadbelly Stripers show up healthy and aggressive. Our biggest catches usually happen this time of year, but anything is possible with Stripers.

Choosing a Three-Quarter day trip is also advantageous when targeting early season Redear. For early season Redear (late February to mid-March), we generally start targeting them when water temperatures reach 56 degrees. So, Redear fishing is kind of slow and methodical, and we want to have as many hours as we can to help the client locate larger specimens of the Lake Havasu world-famous Redear sunfish. In April and May we only offer full days (no half or three-quarters) devoted to Redear fishing.

We are conservationists. We are catch and release for Redear, but will certainly fish hard for your wall mount!

All trips are private.

Where We Fish

There are two major fishing areas on Lake Havasu: the “Site Six” area, on the island near Lake Havasu City, and the Lower Basin near the Parker Dam. Site Six is the most heavily fished area, but I fish the Lower Basin from Havasu Springs Resort. It is the deepest water on Lake Havasu being near the dam that butts up against the fertile productive delta of the Bill Williams River. Due to its distance from the city, it has much less fishing pressure. The lower basin experiences less recreational boating intrusions to the fishing day as the lower Bill Williams River is wake free for all motor boats and jet skis — plus it is an excellent fishery that has the habitat for all game fish species on Lake Havasu.

Weather permitting, come join me for a wonderful day of guided fishing on the Lower Basin from Havasu Springs Resort. Havasu Springs is located near Parker Dam – half way between Lake Havasu City and Parker, AZ. Driving directions are here. You will experience a quiet day fishing while enjoying some of the best fishing the lake has to offer. I am licensed by Arizona Game & Fish Department and the U.S. Coast Guard.

A Powerful Fishing Vessel

We fish from a 20 foot 2020 Targa Tracker Combo with upgraded seating, electric trolling motor and a 200 HP Mercury outboard partnered with a 9.9 kicker motor. We fish four guests comfortably. This boat is a powerful fishing vessel and easily fishes all Havasu game species.

Havasu Net Em is ready to supply knowledge, techniques and fun!

Here is what I offer:

Fall and winter are the active times for Stripers. We offer half or full days.

Spring is the active time for Red Ear, Large and Smallmouth Bass. April and May are devoted to Red Ear fishing, and we only offer full days (no half days). Red Ear populations are fragile and we are committed to catch and release. We are trophy-hunters for our clients in their quest for Bragging Rights, Fish-of-a-Lifetime, or even a World Record Red Ear.

All trip options are available to the fly fisherman. We speak flyfishing with 50 years of experience. We are knowledgeable about fly patterns, retrieves, and rod weights. We offer tender service to float tubers, keeping them in the prime fishing spots. Our flyfishing trips are on the Bill Williams River Delta, which is a shallow striper feeding area, but more importantly, a “no wake” area. This makes it ideal for the fly fisherman during the “striper boil” season. Contact us for more details.

My husband and I had another great experience fishing with D.A. He really knows the redear and the lake, and put us on some large ones. In addition he gave some fishing tips that were very helpful. A day on the lake with him is time well spent.

Would never go back: Took my dad out over the holidays fishing. I would never use this outfitter again. Our guide would holler at us so much it felt more like boot camp than a vacation. :-( “Pick your rod up!” “STOP REELING!” “No! Don’t pick your rod up yet!” “Reel, reel, reel!!” If it would have been hollering in a joyful excitement it might have been different but it was more in the attitude of “no, stupid, you’re doing it wrong!” We only caught 2 or 3 fish all day but that part wasn’t his fault. They weren’t biting. Then he trolled by a still fisherman got our lines tangled and blamed the other boat. LOL, we were the ones moving, the other boat was sitting still. NEXT, he pulled our tangled lines in, got the other guys line and proceeded to pull it in and wad it up… The other guy said, “hey that’s my line” & our guide acted like he was helping him, and kept pulling it in & wadding it up! Finally the other boat just cut their line & left, our guide acted dumb like “I don’t know why he did that” and put the guys lure in his stash. Sad that there are people like this.

D.A. is a TRUE PRO! His knowledge of the lake is second to none and how he shares his knowledge is worth the price of the trip, period! We went in the off-season and decided to hone in on the stripers and even though the water temp wasn't ideal, we still put 10 on the boat for my Wife and I ;) He also showed me one of the coolest lures that he custom trims and dips and you'll just have to book for him to show you too! We'll go again and we'll go in prime red ear season the next time. Thanks again D.A. & for all your help too Jude ;)

This is our 2nd time fishing with DA. We absolutely loved our time fishing with DA, Don on the 5/14/25. The knowledge he passes on, we walk away with is priceless. We practice these methods through out the year fishing in our home state of MO. We have already booked for next year.

My nephew flew down from Minnesota the week of April 28th after he booked us to fish with DA. We've both fished for a combined 100 years on earth and have been on many guided and unguided adventures. This trip with DA set a new standard for fun! He picked us up at the resort, loaded us up and we were fishing within 15 minutes. And wow, did he put us on the jumbo Red-Ears!!! We lost count over those two days and had several "doubles". Not sure we've laughed so hard in memory. Loved it so much we wanted to book the same days for next year but DA's dance card is full already! But we're hoping someone cancels and he can sneak us in. Flying my son in from New York if we can manage to get a booking. Nothing short of incredible. Thanks DA and Mrs. DA for a fabulous experience!!!

G3UY12 I had a great 1/2 day out on Lake Havasu with Capt. Don Allen, or DA as his friends call him. The wind laid down shortly after we left the dock. The first stripper we caught was the biggest. We caught many strippers after that but only kept a few.
